Who We Are...What We Do....

Since 2003, we have helped save over 300 horses through our adoption/placement program. Some horses were rescued from abuse, abandonment, and neglect. Other horses simply just became unwanted and were in need of a new home. Over 60 were slaughter bound from auctions. Please visit our Available Horses Page.

AFH INC is non-profit, volunteer based, org. that strives to help place unwanted horses throughout the USA. Please click on photo to join our Help Place a Horse group through yahoo.

Being a small scale rescue with limited space, it is our goal is to help as many equines as possible. We provide a loving, safe environment while administering appropriate care. We accept healthy unwanted horses from owners who no longer can keep them. We have designed our main facility to accept horses that may have medical problems, suffered neglect, or need emotional healing and physical rehabilitation. We offer services for critical care equine needing 24 hour supervision.

AFH INC receives horses locally, out of state, through other equine rescues, and aids in rescuing slaughter bound horses in need of finding good permanent homes through our adoption process. AFH INC has pre-site inspections, adoption applications, and follow-up policies on EACH horse to assure they are placed into the proper home for its particular needs, personality, and behavior.

We volunteer to help owners find homes for their horses through our placement program. This will help horse owners be sure their horses receive safe homes as we assist them in finding compatible new owners.

We rely greatly on our volunteers to help house equine awaiting adoptions through our foster home program if we become overcrowded. Our foster homes are set up both locally and throughout the USA. This enables us to house the more fragile equine that may require more rehabilitation. Our sponsorship program helps with the costs of rehabilitating horses not yet able to be placed through our adoption program due to the need for more medical treatment or further training and rehabilitation. Please see our horses available for sponsorship.

It is the goal of AFH INC to find permanent homes that will care for the horses in a loving and caring environment for a chance at the new life.

Our Mission:

"To match the right horses with the right people to form a life-time partnership and friendship”

AFH INC has been created for the assurance of the well being of equines. No matter the size, age or breed. We are an all volunteer organization that is solely dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of unwanted, neglected and abused equines in the state of Ohio and surrounding states.

We do this by accepting unwanted horses from individuals, purchasing horses from auctions, assisting law enforcement by means of providing a safe temporary home for the horse until further notice. We accept all cruelty, neglect and seizure cases regardless of the situation. Those that would like to donate their horses must meet certain criteria based on the ability.

Our efforts are funded by donations from the general public, sponsorships, contributions, fund raisers, adoption fees, placement donations, and grants from grantors that support animal rights.

AFH INC also will carry out youth activities through a program AFH INC created called Round Up For Youth. It is designed to develop self-esteem, teach and supervise young volunteers. This program will be used to help promote making a difference and expanding the knowledge of horse ownership and potential owners.

Our Facility:

Our main facility is located at 15953 Annesley Road, Calcutta, Ohio 43920. We also rely greatly on foster home families throughout the USA to help us in our efforts. AFH INC helps to re-home approximately 35-50 equine per year. Our adopters are wonderful people who open their homes and hearts to these horses. We also volunteer our services to help horse owners find quality homes for their equine.

Our members/volunteers:

All board members are avid animal supporters and devote a tremendous amount of time helping the rescued horses in many different ways: veterinary work, fundraising, public awareness, farm work, etc.

It is very important to be sure the horse will always be in a compatible and happy home. This is for both the new adoptive owner and for the horse. It is important that they both have a bonding, permanent relationship. We ask questions in our application process to help the potential adoptive owner find just the right horse that is suitable for their current needs.

Should the owner find the situation is not working out with their new adoption, AFH INC offers them the availability to find a new approved home or bring the horse back to our facility to find another adoptive owner. This helps also with combating the problem of horses becoming unwanted.

All of the equine are owned by AFH INC throughout the duration of their lives to help protect their quality of life. We have a follow-up program established to be sure the equine is always placed in a suitable forever home and it will never end up in the situation it came...abused, neglected, unwanted, or from a kill pen headed for slaughter.

Angels4Horses Inc takes pride in finding "compatible" homes for EACH equine placed through the organization. The horses are each individually evaluated upon arrival, vet checked, updated medically, held at least two weeks for our quarantine period or by the vet's recommendation, and rehabilitated and/or trained if necessary before adoption becomes available.

It is the goal of AFH INC to find permanent homes that will care for them in a loving and caring environment for a better chance at the new life. It is such a reward seeing the horses' second chance at a better life!

We try to update our website regularly; however, more horses may be available for adoption/placement that is not yet listed. Please contact us for more information or to fill out an adoption application so that we can help you find just the right horse, whether it is through our organization, through another equine rescue or private individual. You can also choose to join our mailing list that it updated regularly full of information on our organization and other horses that need help throughout the United States.
